Howdy! My name is Mick Harman and I've been riding horses, mules, and ponies since I was six years old. Hard to believe, but I'll be 70 years old in a few years, so that means I've been doing this horse and mule thing for a long while now.
I've been riding, buying, selling and breeding for over 40 years. I bought my Morgan stud Hamer over 20 years ago. With him and the Percheron/Morgan mares that I had on the farm, I started a breeding program for Army horses that, I'm proud to say, has been supplying the US Army with horses for their caisson unit at Arlington National Cemetery for more than 20 years. The photo that you see below is one of my most prized possessions. I've told my family to make sure to put it in my coffin when I die. No joke.
Klinger was part of the procession for President Ronald Reagan's funeral procession. He is in the swing team, near side, with the rider.
I didn't realize it at the time, but one of the earliest horses that went to Arlington National Cemetery would one day be inducted into the Horse Stars Hall of Fame. That horse was Klinger, a Percheron/Morgan cross who stands 17 HH. They tell me he was always one of the barn favorites at Arlington and that he liked to clown around. He is now one of the most famous horses from Arlington. There's even a book about him, and a plush little horse to go with it. Makes a dad proud.
In addition to the Army, I've provided horses to police departments in Indianapolis, Fort Lauderdale, and Houston. I make a special effort to seek out horses that I believe will be sound for police work, in other words, bomb proof and friendly. And tall.
